Screening for Plagiarism Policy
ICATT Journal of Islamic Studies, published by the Ikatan Cendekiawan Alumni Timur Tengah, is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and originality in scholarly publishing.
1. Plagiarism Screening
All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using reliable plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin plagiarism detection software, iThenticate plagiarism detection software, or other equivalent tools. This process is conducted before the manuscript proceeds to the peer review stage.
2. Similarity Threshold
The acceptable similarity index for submitted manuscripts is a maximum of 20–25% overall similarity, excluding properly cited quotations, references, and commonly used phrases.
Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be carefully evaluated by the editorial team to determine whether the similarity constitutes plagiarism or acceptable overlap.
3. Types of Plagiarism
The journal strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism, including:
- Direct plagiarism (copying text without proper citation)
- Self-plagiarism (reusing one’s own previously published work without acknowledgment)
- Mosaic plagiarism (patchwriting or improper paraphrasing)
- Data or idea plagiarism
4. Editorial Actions
If plagiarism is detected:
- Before review: The manuscript may be rejected or returned to the author for revision.
- During review: The review process may be suspended until the issue is resolved.
- After publication: The article may be corrected, retracted, or removed, depending on the severity of the case.
5. Author Responsibility
Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and proper citation of all sources. Authors are strongly encouraged to check their manuscripts using plagiarism detection tools before submission.
